Our SBD drum god! Pete makes us rock! He's the kind of
drummer who can use the brushes on a quiet Neal Young song, then
stand up and bash the crap out of the kit to a Zeppelin number. His style works perfectly with the rest of us,
but his superb drumming is only the beginning of the story. Pete adds a vocal element that most drummers aren’t capable of.
Being a multi-instrumentalist, Pete switches off with Mark from time
to time. His vast knowledge, experience, and vocal ability add
so much to the band. Dependable, dynamic and always right on time,
Pete holds us together.
Pete! Give us your bio!
"You realize that you're taxing my memory right?"
HIStory:
|
Chaos 6/82 - 7/82
¯"I know it
seems silly, but we actually did play a gig." |
|
The Cause '83 - '88
¯"The
band everybody loved to hate!"
¯17 years
old...Pete had the "stupendous honor" of opening for a
band, members including Gene & Michael Clark of
The Byrds, and was invited to sit in on a couple songs
with them - one of those songs being Eight Miles High. |
|
Rockin' Bones '88 - '90
¯This band
showcased in Manhattan a number of times, including
CBGB's and The Cat Club. The Cat Club is "where I had
the privilege of Joey Ramone accidentally tripping on my
foot while being lead out to an alley by some flooz...er...I
mean very nice young lady!"
¯Rockin'
Bones shared bills with several national acts, most
memorably The Georgia Sattelites and The Black Crowes.
¯The final
release put out by the band was produced by "guitarist
extraordinaire" Warner Hodges of
Jason and the Scorchers. |
|
Featherstone '92
¯Pete's
tenure with this band was at the tail-end of it's
existence. Given the caliber of the other players,
however, it was an important one for him -
"Guitar virtuoso Steve Robinson, Mike Featherstone - a
personal hero from my early days on the scene who played
bass for The Works & Al Dunn a.k.a. Mr. Owl of
The Masters of Reality fame." |
|
Marilyn's Chamber '93
¯"For about
2 weeks until I unceremoniously bailed after being
pitched by Bone China." |
|
Bone China '93 - '94
¯Winner of
the 1994 Sammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal
Group. |
|
Chain Reaction '95 - '96
¯"After
more than a decade of Rock-n-Roll glory I descended to
the depths of the dreaded wedding band gig and then
disappeared from the radar screen entirely for the next
7 years." |
Pete also remembers his parent's
involvement in his musical adventures
"'80 - '83 My parents graciously offered up their basement as a
constant open jam space causing them to endure several rows with the
neighbors a couple court battles and hundreds of dollars on coffee
during the weekly visits by the Camillus Police as well as testing
the vibrational limits of their china cabinet. Many musicians came
and went through the basement door, most notably John Kap. Our
finally working together in Shelly and the Barndogs was the
completion of a circle 20 years in the making."
What does Pete think about "Shelly &
The Barndogs"?
"Rarely does such a complimentary combination of
people and styles occur as has happened with Shelly, Mark, Andy &
John - though I'll never understand why they put up with that joker
of a drummer."
Someone
said:
"I usually have my back to him when we're playing but I just love
turning around and catching a wink and a grin from him to boost my
assurance. Pete is cool! " |
